• Fire Crew Hot Springs is a primitive soaking spot on the Middle Fork Payette River
Fire Crew Hot Springs sits on the Middle Fork of the Payette River in the Boise National Forest. This is a primitive soaking location with easy access from the road.
As the name suggests, this spot was named after forest firefighters who used springs after a hard and dangerous day of work. But you don't have to be a hero firefighter to enjoy the healing properties of geothermal mineral water.
Fire Crew Hot Springs is open year-round, with seasonal variations in pool temperatures and accessibility. Hot mineral water comes from the source at about 128° F (53° C) and flows to the volunteer-built rock-and-sand pools. The number of pools is season-dependent. River runoff destroys the pools, so some visitors rebuild those every season.
Before entering in the pool, check the water temperature. It might be too hot for soaking during summer. It is also a good idea to bring a bucket to add cold river water into the pool for a comfortable soak.
While hot springs are easily accessible during spring, summer, and fall, snow covers the Forest Service Road as late as May. Bring tire chains for safety.
Don't drive with RVs or trailers down the Forest Service Road; you would not be able to turn around.
