• Pine Flats Hot Springs is a scenic hot spring site on a riverbank
Pine Flats Hot Springs is located on the bank of the South Fork Payette River in the Boise National Forest, six miles southwest of Lowman. This scenic location is a truly exceptional destination for camping in a developed campground, hiking to the cliff's hot springs, and relaxing in hot water, surrounded by the beauty of nature.
There is a parking fee if you do not plan to stay overnight.
The hot springs are 0.25 miles away from the parking lot. While the trail itself is easy, be careful when descending to the pools. The slope and loose rocks can make your hike more dangerous than it seems. Make sure you wear good shoes.

Pine Flats Hot Springs Experience
Hot spring water emerges from the cliff at 115°F and flows down to the two man-made soaking pools, which are built on the cliff. The top pool has a higher temperature of about 110°F. It is, however, tiny - and even a single person cannot fully submerge in it. The pool below is deeper and has temperatures ranging from 97° to 100°F.
There are also bathing opportunities at the river level. A steaming waterfall flows down from the multicolored cliff into two cascading pools. The temperature in those pools is dependent on weather conditions.
Lowman Ranger District prohibits nudity, pets, soap, and glass at its hot springs.

Beyond the Hot Springs: Other Adventures
In addition to soaking and camping, you can enjoy fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and rafting on the South Fork Payette River. Additionally, the Boise National Forest is a biking and hiking paradise in summer. Its winter cross-country skiing opportunities are no less heavenly.
As you drive along Highway 21 and Highway 17, a.k.a. the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway and the Banks-Lowman Highway, respectively, you will enjoy beautiful views, wildlife, historical sites, hiking trails, and several natural hot springs. East of Pine Flat Hot Springs,
you can stop at Haven, Kirkham, and Bonneville Hot Springs. Campground Hot Springs is located 15 miles west.
