Sacajawea Hot Springs

• Sacajawea Hot Springs is a primitive soaking spot on the picturesque South Fork Payette River
• The soaking pools are scattered on a 0.2-mile strip stretching along the river

Sacajawea Hot Springs is a hot spring site in incredible surroundings of the Boise National Forest and Sawtooth Wilderness, 42 miles away from the charming mountain town of Stanley.  Primitive soaking pools sit on the north bank of the South Fork Payette River, o.5 miles from the historical Sawtooth Lodge and 1.8 miles from Grandjean Campground.

Geothermal Water

The rock-and-sand volunteer-built soaking pools are scattered on a 0.2-mile strip stretching along the river. Geothermal mineral water emerges from various springs on the hill, with temperatures ranging from 125°F (52°C) to 160°F (71°C). Water temperature in the pools depends on the season and how far from the pool hot spring source is located. However, you can always cool the soaking pool down with the river water.

During spring runoffs, the river covers soaking pools.

Swimwear is recommended since you will be soaking near the road.

Location and Amenities

There are many turnouts along the road where you can park and walk down to the river and soaking pools.

There is no camping at the Sacajawea Hot Springs, but there are a lot of places to camp in the surrounding area, including Grandjean Campground.

If you want to soak in a more developed place, Sawtooth Lodge has a day-use option.
