Sacajawea Hot Springs

• Sacajawea Hot Springs is a primitive soaking spot on the picturesque South Fork Payette River

Located 42 miles from the mountain town of Stanley, Sacajawea Hot Springs is a stunning geothermal site nestled within the beautiful Boise National Forest and Sawtooth Wilderness.

Just 0.5 miles from the historic Sawtooth Lodge, the site is hard to miss—steam from the hot water rises above the road, making it a perfect stop to experience nature's wild geothermal wonders.

The soaking pools are scattered along a 0.2-mile stretch on the north bank of the South Fork Payette River. There are many turnouts along the road where you can park and walk down to the river and soaking pools.

Sacajawea Hot Springs Experience

Sacajawea Hot Springs features primitive rock-and-sand soaking pools built by volunteers. Geothermal mineral water flows from various spring sources on the hillside, with temperatures ranging from 125°F to 160°F.

Pool temperatures vary depending on the season and distance from the hot spring source. If the water is too hot, it can be cooled by adding river water. During spring runoffs, the river may cover the soaking pools.

Swimwear is recommended, as the soaking areas are located near the road.
