Trail Creek Hot Springs: Boise National Forest Soaking Gem

Trail Creek Hot Springs is a scenic oasis located in the Warm Lake area of Boise National Forest, about 20 miles northeast of Cascade, Idaho. Nestled along Trail Creek, the hot springs feature multiple rustic pools surrounded by beautiful wilderness.

The hot spring pools sit right near the road, so you don't have to walk far. However, the short 0.1-mile trail from the parking is pretty steep.

The Boise National Forest and surrounding wilderness nearby have plenty of other hot springs to enjoy including Molly's Tubs, Molly Hot Springs, Vulcan Hot Springs, and Gold Fork Hot Springs.

Trail Creek Hot Springs - Geothermal Water & Soaking

The geothermal water at Trail Creek Hot Springs emerges from the source at 125°F and flows into the soaking pools. Two main soaking pools, built by volunteers with rock and sand and reinforced with cement walls, offer a unique experience.

The upper pool is about 8 feet by 12 feet and 2 feet deep. The lower pool is roughly 6 feet in diameter. Temperatures in the pools vary, and you can always adjust it by adding creek water.

In addition to 2 major pools along the creek's edge, you might encounter occasional seasonal pools.

The surrounding rocks are covered with colorful algae. It is pretty, but it increases the chance of slipping, so be mindful of that.

Clothing is recommended at Trail Creek Hot Springs because this spot is popular among families with kids.

Getting There

Park in the small lot near milepost 60.6 off NF-22/Warm Lake Road. From the west edge of this parking area, carefully make your way down a steep 0.1-mile path to the canyon floor.

Beyond Hot Springs: Other Adventures

Both the Boise National Forest and the serene alpine Warm Lake offer other outdoor adventures. Known for its clear waters and beautiful surrounding scenery, Warm Lake offers a range of outdoor activities including fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and swimming.

Camping: Pitch a tent at one of the nearby campgrounds, such as Shoreline Campground or Picnic Point Campground, both situated along the shores of Warm Lake. These campgrounds have picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets.

Scenic Drives: Take a drive along the Warm Lake Highway, a 50-mile scenic byway winding through the heart of the Boise National Forest. You can stop at various viewpoints and picnic areas to enjoy the nature.

Horseback Riding: Explore the backcountry on horseback, with several trails accessible from the Warm Lake area. Outfitters in the nearby town of Cascade provide guided horseback rides for all skill levels.

Winter Recreation: During winter, Boise National Forest is a paradise for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.
