The history of Red River Hot Springs began over a century ago. In the early 1900s, the Meinert family established the facility as a health retreat, with a lodge and cabins to host visitors seeking the therapeutic benefits of the mineral waters. Over the decades, the resort has changed hands several times but has remained a beloved area attraction.
The resort provides essential amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. There is a small café on-site, offering coffee and snacks, and a general store where guests can purchase basic supplies. Breakfast is available for registered lodge guests by request. The resort’s friendly staff is always on hand to assist with any needs and to provide information about the local area and activities.
Whether you visit to bathe in the healing waters or embark on an outdoor adventure, the resort is a perfect destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Geothermal Water & Soaking
The main attraction at the resort is the natural hot springs. There are several soaking pools, each filled with mineral-rich waters heated by geothermal activity. The temperatures of the pools vary, providing a range of options for guests to find their perfect soaking experience. The pools are surrounded by natural beauty, with forested landscapes offering a tranquil and rejuvenating atmosphere.
The geothermal mineral waters flow from a source on the hillside at a temperature of 135°F (57°C) and are piped into soaking tubs and a swimming pool.
There are two wooden soaking tubs offering a hot bathing at temperatures of 100°F and higher. The round ceramic pool near a changing room is usually cooler and perfect for a relaxing soak. The swimming pool temperature is maintained at around 95°F (35°C). The pool is 32 feet by 28 feet in size, with depth ranging from 4 to 9 feet.
The water is not treated with chemicals due to the high flow rate, which constantly replenishes the water.
Pool and tub hours are from dusk until 10 pm daily.
The resort is open year-round and welcomes daytime visitors for a nominal fee.
Beyond Hot Springs: Other Adventures
In addition to bathing and swimming in the hot springs, visitors can enjoy a range of outdoor activities. The resort is an excellent base for hiking, with numerous trails offering opportunities to explore the surrounding wilderness. Fishing, wildlife watching, horse-riding, and photography are also popular activities.
In the winter, the area transforms into a snowy wonderland, perfect for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing.
