Whitmore Swimming Pool is a part of the Whitmore Recreation Area right off Highway 395 in Mammoth Lakes, California.
This site, operated jointly by Mono County and the town of Mammoth Lakes, allows visitors to swim in a full-size outdoor pool filled with warm mineral water while enjoying picturesque views of three mountain ranges!
The mineral water comes out of the well, gets heated, pumped to the pool, and treated with chlorine. Water temperature in a full-size pool is generally around 82°F (28°C), depending on the season, while the neighboring shallow children's wading pool temperature averages around 92°F (33°C). The big pool is 25 meters long and divided into 6 lanes.
The facility has bathrooms, showers, a shaded barbecue area, and vending machines. Whitmore Recreation Area has Red Cross-certified lifeguards on duty. Whitmore offers a variety of classes.
The pool is open seasonally, typically from mid-June to August, Monday through Saturday.

There are plenty of things to do near Whitmore Pool.
The pool sits within the geothermal active Long Valley Caldera, a region known for its numerous natural hot springs scattered across the landscape. Many of these springs are undeveloped and vary in temperature and accessibility but all of them offers unforgettable soaking experience in scenic settings.
You can also take a short drive to Hot Creek Geological Site to see steaming vents, boiling geysers, turquoise-colored pools, and fumaroles.
Fishing is popular along the Owens River, where you can catch trout in a peaceful setting. For more adventure, head to Mammoth Lakes for hiking, biking, shopping, and dining. In the winter, the area is also popular for skiing and snow activities.
Camping & Lodging at Whitmore Pool
Camping is not allowed right next to the pool, but you can camp on nearby BLM land. There is also a developed option at Brown’s Owens River Campground, located about 6 miles to the northeast.
Dispersed camping in this area is primitive, which means there are no facilities. Be sure to bring all the supplies you need and pack out your trash.
The closest places to stay are in Mammoth Lakes, about 10 miles west.
