• Kyle Hot Springs is a geothermal oasis in the isolated Nevada desert
• Features a round-shaped concrete pool and a few bathtubs
A geothermal oasis in the middle of nowhere, Kyle Hot Springs sits in a remote stretch of the Nevada desert near the ghost town of Unionville. Once a well-known bath resort and now abandoned, the area still offers a unique soaking experience amid the spellbinding scenery of Buena Vista Canyon.
Extremely hot mineral water—about 150°F—emerges from the ground at the main source, where a concrete pool and fence were built around the vent. Numerous additional springs seep from different spots on the salty desert hillside.
Hot water is piped from the source into several bathtubs set farther down the hill. These tubs fill directly from the spring, so that the water can be very hot at first. To reach a comfortable temperature, fill your tub and let it cool.

A good practice is to leave the tub half-full when you finish soaking. Empty it, rinse it out, then leave it half-filled so the next visitors don’t have to wait as long for usable water.
A round concrete pool sits a short distance away. About 3 feet deep, it fits up to six people. Its temperature varies with weather conditions, generally between 85–100°F, and can be adjusted by adding hotter water from the source.
The sulfur odor here is noticeable.

Remnants of the old resort still stand near the springs. While overnight camping is not prohibited in the area, avoid setting up camp too close to the hot springs. Lodging is available in Winnemucca, 56 miles northeast, and developed campgrounds are found 50 miles west at Rye Patch Reservoir.
Sadly, Kyle Hot Springs struggles with litter left by some visitors. Please help keep this site clean—pack out everything you bring and, if you can, pick up any leftover trash.
