Balanced Rock Warm Spring
Creek and Pump House

• Balanced Rock Warm Springs is named after the famous geological formation located nearby

Balanced Rock Warm Springs sits along the bank of Salmon Falls Creek at Balanced Rock Park Campground, just a short drive from Buhl. Surrounded by the scenic landscape of southern Idaho, the nearby Salmon Falls Creek Canyon draws visitors from around the world to see the iconic Balanced Rock.

The campground is located on the southwest side of the bridge, while the warm spring source emerges on the opposite side—about 40 feet from the highway, next to a pump house. Geothermal mineral water flows from the hillside and ground at a temperature of about 97–100°F.

Free parking is available at the campground. To reach the warm springs, look for a steep trail on the opposite side of the road and follow it down to the springs and the pump house. If water levels are low, you can also access the area by walking through one of the two large culverts beneath the bridge.

The spring area is on BLM land and open to the public, though the pump house is private property and marked with "No Trespassing" signs.

Because the site does not offer a soaking opportunity, the hot springs are often overlooked by visitors. However, the area remains popular for camping, fishing, hiking, and, of course, visiting the remarkable Balanced Rock.

Balanced Rock and Other Adventures Nearby

Located about a mile from the campground and warm springs, Balanced Rock is the area’s main attraction. This naturally occurring geological formation stands 48 feet tall, weighs around 40 tons, and balances dramatically on a narrow pedestal just 3 feet 17 inches wide.

The rock is made of rhyolite lava and is estimated to be 15 million years old. Shaped over time by wind and water, it has become a striking and unusual landmark.

The 0.9-mile out-and-back trail to Balanced Rock is rough and steep in places, so use caution while hiking.

Since Balanced Rock Warm Springs does not offer quality soaking opportunities, consider nearby resorts like Miracle Hot Springs, Banbury Hot Springs, and 1000 Springs Resort for a better experience.
