Applegate Hot Springs

• Applegate Hot Springs closed for soaking

Applegate Hot Springs sits in the remote corner of Northeastern California along the historic Applegate Trail. Applegate is one of many geothermal springs in the seismically active Surprise Valley.

This spot is a collection of hot springs gushing from the earth's core at extremely high temperatures over 180°F (82°C). As the steaming water flows down to the road and the ranch, the temperature decreases, but it's still too hot to bathe in the stream. The sulfur smell is very strong.

This site could become a popular soaking destination with improvements such as building a pool and piping water from the stream.

Applegate Hot Springs is located on private land. Please do not abuse the privilege of accessing the area.

Leonards Hot Springs and Glenn's Hot Springs are nearby but are closed to the public.
