Keough Hot Springs Resort – Historic Hot Pools in Eastern Sierra, California

Keough Hot Springs is a historic resort located in the Owens Valley foothills of the Eastern Sierra Nevada, just 7 miles from Bishop.

The resort and pools, built in 1919, remain in use today.

Keough Hot Springs Resort Experience

The geothermal water emerges at approximately 130°F (54°C) and flows through a spray system, creating a waterfall aeration that naturally cools the water. A building wall partially encloses the main 100-by-40-foot pool, leaving it open to the sky.

Water temperatures range from 86°F to 92°F (30-33°C), depending on the season. A smaller hot wading pool, measuring 25 by 40 feet, is maintained at 104°F (40°C).

The high flow rate of 600 gallons per minute allows for minimal chemical treatment.

Therapeutic massage and aerobic classes are available.

The pools are closed each Tuesday for cleaning. There are lounge chairs for sunbathing, a snack bar, an outdoor picnic area, and a gift shop. A short trail runs up the hill through the rock garden. On top of the hill, you can enjoy the view of the Eastern Sierra Nevada.

The hot springs offer different types of accommodations, including rustic furnished tent cabins, RVs, and tent campgrounds.
