Scenic Hot Springs is tucked away in the Cascade Mountains, about 60 miles east of Seattle, Washington, and just 8 miles west of Stevens Pass. If you’re searching for hot springs in Washington with a real backcountry feel, this is it.

You’ll need to hike 2 miles each way (4 miles round-trip), climb about 1,100 feet in elevation, and make an advance reservation to soak here.

Amenities at Scenic Hot Springs are rustic and simple:

  • Two or three tarp-lined soaking pools (depending on season and water)
  • Bench and hooks for your gear
  • The pit toilet
  • Stunning views of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness

Reservations are required. Scenic Hot Springs allows only 10 visitors per day. No walk-ins. No dogs, no fires, and no camping allowed. No children under 6 years old.

Note: The trail is on private land. You must have your written permission with you, or you risk being turned away. Directions are sent by email after booking.

There is no cell service at the trailhead.

Scenic Hot Springs - Geothermal Water & Soaking

The geothermal water at Scenic Hot Springs bubbles up from natural mineral springs at 118°F (48°C). The clear, mineral-rich water flows into two or three soaking tubs, each at a different temperature:

  • Lobster Pot: 106–108°F (41–42°C), can fluctuate with rain and runoff
  • Bear’s Den: Consistent at 102.5°F (39°C)
  • Third Pool: Sometimes available, can get up to 118°F (48°C) in hot spells

Clothing is optional. Each pool fits about 6 people, so you never feel crowded.

No chemicals are added, the pools are cleaned regularly, and the mountain views are fantastic, especially in winter.

From Seattle,

  • Take US Highway 2 east toward Stevens Pass for about 60 miles to the community of Scenic (near milepost 58)
  • After making a reservation, follow the detailed parking and trailhead directions sent by email
  • Park only in the approved location and begin your hike from the designated access point
  • Hike 2 miles on a forested trail and access road, gaining about 1,100 feet in elevation, to reach Scenic Hot Springs.
